What's it like to build a new Toyota model? Derek Simms would know.

As the assistant manager of body quality at Toyota's Blue Springs, Mississippi plant, he works at the forefront of the assembly process. The factory, which churns out the Corolla uses a mix of people, robots, and other technology to make sure each vehicle that leaves the line is as reliable as can be.

How is this reliability accomplished? According to Mr. Simms, a lot of it has to do with the passion of the workers--most of whom knew little about the automotive industry before signing on. That appears to be enough, however, if the quality of the Corolla is anything to go by!
