If you are not aware already, Toyota and BMW recently announced that they would be partnering to produce a new vehicle and develop new technologies. The initial announcement had little detail about what exactly the two auto giants would create, but today we are here on our blog to offer some more details on this historic collaboration.

As of right now, all signs point to the two companies creating some sort of new sports car. Currently, this type of vehicle is absent from the lineup of new Toyota models. Perhaps that's why the company is bringing in a company with decades of performance automotive experience to help. Many are speculating that this partnership could yield a new version of the Toyota Supra.

There has also been talk of developing the use of lightweight technologies. As new sturdier lightweight materials are being created for use in cars, we suspect that more automakers will try to incorporate them into various vehicles in order to reduce fuel consumption.

BMW also has a long history with diesel cars, and with current trends in the auto market reflecting the popularity of this fuel alternative, Toyota certainly needs to do some catching up. In the same light, Toyota will also be able to assist BMW designers with different Hybrid technologies.

All in all, this new tech sharing agreement should prove beneficial for Toyota, and could even lead to some exciting new vehicles.
