Here at Del Toyota we know that our favorite Japanese automaker is always on the cutting edge of technology, and at the Geneva Motor Show which took place earlier this month, we got to see one of the newest and most innovative cars ever created. This new Toyota was introduced without warning and could possibly reinvent the way we think about modern transportation.
Dubbed the Toyota i-Road Concept this new "car" (if you can call it that) is a three-wheeled vehicle that can accommodate two occupants in the cabin. The wheels are set up like a reverse tricycle; with two in the front and one in the back. The cabin is entirely enclosed, but the people inside sit tandem (as if on a motorcycle).
One of the most interesting aspects of the i-Road is the use of "Active Lean" technology. To execute a turn, the wheels actually tilt to the side like a bicycle and then return to the center using internal gyroscopes.
The i-Road is powered by a lithium-ion battery and two 2kw electric motors. This little cruiser is only 7.7 feet long and rises 4.7 feet high. It weighs just over 650 pounds, and handles beautifully.
Unfortunately, Toyota did not announce whether or not the i-Road concept will ever make it to production. If it does, you can be sure to read all about it right here on our blog. Until then you can always stop by Del Toyota and check out our inventory of new and used Toyota vehicles. We encourage you to speak to our staff and learn about all of our excellent financing options that can have you driving home in a new Toyota today. The Del Toyota showroom is located at 2945 E. Lincoln Hwy. Thorndale, PA 19372.
