Last month, we were telling you all about the bright future that awaits our beloved Toyota Prius. Given its bright past, we can't exactly say this was news to us here at Del Toyota Inc.

But now that have a better idea of the changes that await it, we'd be lying if we said weren't excited.

As part of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), our favorite automaker is already hard at work to make future Prius models lighter and more fuel-efficient than we even thought possible. For starters, they're looking to reduce the overall weight of the Prius by 20% by borrowing parts and design elements from other Toyota models. Initial reports show that the 2015 Toyota Prius will be about 150 lbs. lighter than next year's model.

Then there's the new TNGA hybrid engine.

From what we've heard, the TNGA engine will boast thermal efficiency rates of more than 40%, which is already a greater percentage than the most thermally-efficient engines on Toyota's lineup. From there, Toyota vehicles using the TNGA engine should prove to be at least 10% more fuel-efficient. With all this taken into account, the 2015 Prius could get up to 60 mpg combined.

Still, 2015 is a ways away and we're sure there will be more news to come. Until then, feel free to learn more about the fuel-efficient technologies on our lineup that will help you save a bundle with a visit to our dealership here in Thorndale, PA. It's the future today, folks.
