With sales surpassing 211,000 units, Toyota led the industry for the month of April. While sales were flat on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis, an extra selling day allowed Toyota to report a volume increase of nearly four percent over April of 2015.
The automaker's light trucks division continued its six-month streak of record sales thanks to strong showings from the RAV4 (up 31.6 percent, Highlander (up 9.3 percent), and 4Runner (up 36 percent). All three models reported best-ever April sales.
"The industry had its strongest April in more than 10 years, possibly a best-ever month," said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager. "Toyota division enjoyed its sixth consecutive month of best-ever light truck sales, helped by record Highlander, RAV4 and 4Runner sales."
