While most vehicles in the industry only qualify for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's highest Top Safety Pick+ award with higher trim levels and options, the 2017 Toyota Highlander earns the coveted designation with standard equipment.
In a press release from yesterday, Toyota announced that the IIHS awarded Highlander with a 2017 Tope Safety Pick+ Award. With the recognition, Toyota pushes its TSP+ count to 10 across Toyota and Lexus models, maintaining its lead as the manufacturer with the most TSP+ awards in 2017.
In order to earn a Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must achieve the highest rating of Good across all five crash assessments and they must offer an available forward collision prevention technology that scores Advanced or Superior. To add the "plus" designation, the vehicle must also earn an "Acceptable" score for headlights.
“Toyota is firmly committed to a wide range of initiatives further enhancing the safety of Toyota vehicles and peace of mind for our customers,” said Jeff Makarewicz, Toyota’s North American Vehicle, Quality & Safety Engineering Group Vice President. “This sincere dedication to safety by our engineers resulted in another IIHS Top Safety pick for Toyota.”
