How to Use a Car Battery Charger

Battery issues can quickly affect your schedule. It's not uncommon for batteries to drain due to age or equipment being left on. Just because your car isn't starting doesn't mean that your battery is completely dead. A charger helps you replenish it. We here at Del Toyota Inc. want you to be an informed vehicle owner and know how to take care of your car, so here's how to use a battery charger.

First, you need to access the battery and create a safe charging environment. Most chargers get their power from a standard outlet. Try to position the charger as far from the car as possible. Keep the charger unplugged for now. Then, pop the hood and locate the battery.

There are two battery terminals and two corresponding clamps on the charger. Connect the red clamp to the positive terminal and the black clamp to the negative. Then, plug the charger into the wall outlet. Most devices take several hours to fully charge the battery. They'll often shut off automatically as well for convenience.
